I’m obsessed with the Gilded Age and Jazz Age, which explains why we’ve had so much coverage on Luscious of movies, TV shows, architecture and fashion from these periods in history, from Downton Abbey to The Great Gatsby. The lives of these ridiculously wealthy business people (in the US) and aristocracy (in the UK) fascinate me…

Grand mansions of the Gilded Age
These photos of grand buildings and interiors are mostly from New York, the “Gold Coast” on Long Island, and Newport, Rhode Island, as well as various other places from around this era plus photos from New York during this time of great development.
Disclaimer: I am not a historian, so my apologies for probably including some images which are not technically true to the period.
Many of the homes have since been destroyed (the Gilded Age with all its excess could hardly continue forever, especially once the Depression kicked in) but some photos and paintings remain, whilst other houses now thrive as tourist meccas – see the links below for more insight.
